🌿 Learning to Rule Over Emotions with Grace

Finding Gratitude in the Middle of Moodiness
Hey Reader,
Have you ever had one of those days where your emotions feel louder than your intentions? Where you want to be gentle, patient, and grace-filled… but your feelings take the lead instead?
Oh friend, I understand that so deeply.
Marriage, motherhood, and even ordinary womanhood have a way of revealing our tender places—those moments when exhaustion, hormonal shifts, or simple overwhelm make us moody and sensitive. You are not alone in this. So many of us have walked through that very same struggle.
For years, I battled intense hormone swings, migraines, and emotional overload during my monthly cycles and after pregnancies. Sometimes the physical strain felt so heavy that my moods stormed in before I could even catch them. Maybe you’ve felt that too?
I used to justify my irritability—after all, the reasons were real. But even then, God lovingly whispered a reminder:
“My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” —2 Corinthians 12:9
Isn’t that precious? Our weakness is not a failure. It’s an invitation for His strength.
We live in fallen bodies with emotions that don’t always behave as we expect. But here is the truth that has carried me through so many rollercoaster days:
We are not victims of our moods—and neither are the people we love.
When we refuse to let irritability rule, something beautiful begins to happen—grace steps in. Perspective softens. Peace settles where chaos once stirred.
🌸 Ruling Over Our Moodiness Is a Holy Habit
Every day gives us chances to reflect on Jesus or react from emotion. I’ve failed many times—but God never stops teaching, lifting, and shaping. He’s so faithful.
Your children, grandchildren, and even your husband are blessed when you choose patience over prickliness. It doesn’t mean you won’t feel the emotions—it simply means you won’t let them reign.
And sister, that’s growth. That’s grace. That’s the Spirit at work in you.
🌿 A Powerful Replacement: Moodiness → Gratitude
One of the most transformative practices in my own life has been turning moments of moodiness into moments of gratitude.
It sounds simple, but it shifts everything.
Gratitude:
interrupts negative thinking!
invites God’s peace into your heart!
helps you respond instead of react!
reminds you of who God is—not how you feel!
And I love how Paul ties it together so beautifully:
“My grace is sufficient for you…” —2 Corinthians 12:9
When our weakness rises, grace rises higher.
🌸 How Do We Renew Our Minds When Emotions Are Strong?
This is where your War Room—your quiet place with Jesus—becomes sacred ground.
Emotions may be real… But they still need to kneel before Christ.
Prayer, Scripture, worship, and surrender, and align our thoughts with truth.
“…bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.” —2 Corinthians 10:4–5
That means you don’t have to wait until the storm passes—you can meet Jesus in the middle of it.
🌼 This Week’s Encouragement
Here are a few gentle practices to help you choose gratitude over moodiness:
Pause and breathe before responding!
Whisper a short prayer: “Lord, rule my reactions!”
Write three things you’re thankful for—right in the moment!
Spend five minutes in your War Room, even if it’s the bathroom!
Let Scripture interrupt your emotions!
Little choices create lifelong habits.
And friend—you are growing. You are learning. You are being strengthened day by day by a God whose grace truly is unmeasured.
I’m praying for God’s peace to settle beautifully over your heart and home.

Hey Reader, As quick as a wink, the first week of November has passed—and Christmas is coming waaay too quickly! I’d love to say that anxiety doesn’t build inside my heart just because I write about it here at His Unmeasured Grace . . . but this past week, I failed! Can I handle all the baking? What gifts should I get for our changing and growing family members? Will the chaos and fun unravel me—or will I have calm during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons? I don’t know about you, but...
Hey Reader! Can you believe that November starts tomorrow? This year slipped by waay too fast! All you have to do is stop by Walmart to know that the holidays are coming quickly. It's easy to imagine the cozy gatherings, laughter around the table, and the aroma of pumpkin pie filling the air. You do love pumpkin, right? Yet, you might be like me, and also find yourself feeling overwhelmed -- with long to-do lists, family tension, and a weary heart. Maybe you’ve felt that tug between wanting to...
A Grace-Filled Journey of Fruitful GrowthHey Sweet Reader,Have you ever longed to grow deeper in your faith but wondered how? In 2 Peter 1:5–11, Peter gives us a spiritual roadmap — a step-by-step guide for cultivating a heart that flourishes in Christ. It all begins with this beautiful truth: “His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him.” That phrase — “through the knowledge of Him” — is the heartbeat of our faith. It’s not...
