Journaling with Jesus This Winter

Hey Reader,

As winter settles in, so many of you are experiencing ice and snow—some of it in places where you don’t usually see much of either.

Back east, where I used to live, they’ve had more than two feet of snow!

And here in northern Wisconsin, the snow is deep, and the temperatures have dipped as low as –34 degrees. Brrr!

Winter, though, is such a beautiful season to slow down—and I’ve found it’s a wonderful time to practice journaling art, and lettering, even if you think you’re not artistic.

In the evenings, as I sit in a cozy room by the fireplace, I pull out my pencil crayons and markers and simply practice.

  • No pressure.
  • No expectations.
  • Just time with Jesus and a willing heart.

The picture is one of those practice pieces. I’ll be sharing more soon, so I hope you’ll stay tuned.

This month, I’ll be teaching how to Bible journal inside Jesus Journaling on Facebook, using verses from the How to Study the Bible - Bible Reading Plan.

The download is completely free. It’s set up as “pay what you want,” but please feel free to choose $0 and grab it—no strings attached.

Once you download the Bible Reading Plan, you’ll also have access to our Resource Library anytime (password: gracefilled). Be sure to keep opening these emails, as the password does change from time to time.

The picture I shared isn’t taken directly from the verses in the plan—it was inspired by my own learning curve as I continue growing and stretching in how I journal, right alongside you.

How about you?

Are you learning for the first time—or looking to improve and loosen up a little?

One thing I’ve discovered is how much simple doodling helps me slow down and stay present with the Word.

As I draw, my heart settles.

I’m not striving for perfection — I’m simply responding.

Simple, cute drawings feel freeing in this season. They remove pressure and invite joy.

Maybe today it’s stars, clouds, a sweet little cat, a bird, or gentle branches that spark something in you. Let them be an invitation—not an expectation.

Bible journaling isn’t about how it looks.

It’s about surrender.

About offering your time, your attention, your imperfect lines, and your willing heart to Jesus.

As this year unfolds, may your journaling—like your life—be a quiet, grace-filled “yes” to Him. 💛

When God Is Doing a New Thing

Hey, Sweet Reader, Last Friday, I was putting together this newsletter with grandkids filling my house—laughter and interruptions everywhere. And somehow… I completely forgot to include the link to my latest blog post. Real life, right? That’s just how my days look sometimes, and I know many of yours do too. During my time with Jesus this week, one particular passage met me right where I am and wouldn’t let go: “Behold, I will do a new thing,Now it shall spring forth;Shall you not know it?I...
