Martha’s Overwhelm & Jesus’ Response
Hey Sweet Friend đź’•
Have you ever found yourself doing all the things—serving your family, cleaning, cooking, caring—and wondering if anyone even notices? Maybe you’re exhausted before the day is done, and resentment quietly starts to rise in your heart.
I’ve been there too.
Just this past week, I finished everything for the day at 10 p.m! My sister lives 1000 miles away, and it would be silly to expect her help—but my husband was right in the next room, completely unaware that I was exhausted! The temptation to resent that was so real.
Then I thought of Martha in Luke 10:38–42. She was doing good things—serving Jesus Himself—but her heart was weary and distracted. Jesus looked at her with such love and said,
“Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed…”
Oh, how those words still speak to us today.
Jesus isn’t scolding Martha—or you. He’s gently inviting you to stop, breathe, and sit at His feet for a while.
When we rush from one task to another, even in serving others, our hearts become restless. But when we pause and spend time with Jesus, something changes. We begin to serve fromHis strength instead of striving in our own.
Then I heard Him whisper again, from Matthew 11:28–30,
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
He sees you, sweet friend—the laundry, the meals, the endless giving. And He isn’t asking for perfection. He’s offering peace.
So today, take a deep breath and come sit with Him. Let the dishes wait. The to-do list will still be there. But His invitation—to rest, to listen, to be filled—is right now.
🌿 A Grace-Filled Thought to Ponder
Serving is good. Sitting with Jesus is better. When your hands are busy, keep your heart at His feet.
